Teaching Bio

Andra has a Bachelor of Music degree in Viola Performance from the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Matthew Michelic.  While at Lawrence she played with the Oshkosh and Green Bay Symphony Orchestras.  During the summers, she studied with Roland Vamos at the International School for the Musical Arts and Weathersfield Summer Music Festival.  Other principal teachers include Peter Slowik and Li-Kuo Chang.

Andra’s love for teaching began in college, where she had her first gig as a teacher at the Lawrence Academy of Music in 1999.  The following year she signed up for a Violin Pedagogy class, where she read two books that continue to inspire her teaching:  The first being Shinichi Suzuki’s autobiography, Nurtured by Love, and Ed Kreitman’s Teaching from the Balance Point, both of which are praised by Suzuki and traditional teachers alike. After establishing a teaching studio in Chicago, IL, Andra contacted Mr. Kreitman to observe his masterful teaching, which ultimately led to her participating in his yearlong Book 1 teacher-training workshop.

In 2010 Andra relocated her life to Nashville where she enjoys a private teaching studio of forty students, and is a teacher at the rapidly growing Franklin Suzuki Academy in Franklin, TN.  Andra incorporates her experience as a fiddler and rock guitarist in her teaching, and is a sought after clinician, teaching fiddle workshops and orchestra sectionals to middle school and high school students.

Andra has continued her teacher training with Ed Kreitman at the Ithaca Suzuki Institue and Carol Smith at the Blair School of Music.  Andra is a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas and is registered to teach Books 1 through 4.
